Our story
57 years ago Taylor’s opened its doors as a small college in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It became a full university only in 2012, and it has grown into the #1 private university in SE Asia, one of the top 30 universities in Asia, and 272nd in the world in the QS World University Rankings. Very few institutions anywhere have grown that far, that fast, in the span of a single career.
The School of Media and Communication is ranked #89 in the world for Marketing. It publishes the SEARCH Journal of Media and Communication Research, indexed in Scopus and Clarivate ESCI, and hosts the International SEARCH Conference, now in its ninth edition. Students learn in a working newsroom, a digital multicam studio and an editing laboratory, with Golden Screen Cinemas as an established partner. In Media and Communication itself, the world ranking is still to be built. That is the job.
Here is what makes this school worth your attention: practice-led research. You can research a subject, make the film about it, screen the film and publish a paper based on it. It can be a book. It can be an exhibition. You have full research and creative freedom to decide what it is going to be.
Why we attract the best students: a student walks in at degree level and can walk out with a PhD, without ever changing schools. The idea they bring in year one becomes a real piece of work, and that work gets screened, for instance on our own Taylor’s University Film Festival.
The research base is young and moving. Nine grants run this year. Before, there were none. Now the school wants scale: more published work, a subject ranking, a research culture.
We’re inviting a Professor driven by a desire to build and lead a research team. Behind them, the resources of the #1 private university in Southeast Asia.
