How to show a long career at one university on a resume

How do you show fifteen years at one university on a resume without it reading like one job? You show the promotions. A career inside one institution moves from lecturer to senior lecturer to associate professor, each step with its own dates, and a hiring panel wants to see both the length of the commitment and the slope of the career. Axe Builder, our resume builder for researchers, turns an ORCID iD into an academic resume with citations, h-index, journal quartiles and Crossref data already in place. Since 29 July 2026, it prints the full span of those years on the employer’s heading itself.

The heading carries the institution and the whole tenure, and the roles sit beneath it with their individual dates, so a panel sees twelve years and three promotions at a glance.

Why trajectory matters more than the title

When we screen a candidate for a university, a flat line, meaning the same grade for fifteen years, is a question we have to ask, while a rising line is an argument in the candidate’s favour. A heading that shows the whole span makes that argument before anyone on the panel reads the detail.
